The Story of DMMC
Des Moines Mennonite Church is a member of Central Plains Conference (locally), Mennonite Church USA (denominationally), and Mennonite World Conference (globally). Theologically, we are rooted in the Anabaptist peace church tradition.
The Des Moines Mennonite Church was started in the mid 1950’s, prompted by the presence of young Mennonite men doing alternative service as conscientious objectors. In the late 1970s, DMMC became heavily involved in the resettlement of Tai Dam and Lao people to the city. This engagement created a long period of vibrant Tai Dam and Lao ministry, led by former associate pastor Ha Baccam.
Today, DMMC continues to be a diverse community focused on following the way of Jesus in the midst of our growing, changing, and exciting city.
